Where do they come from? I know we've seen them on Ebay but where are the coming from? Are they completely fake or just altered? Maybe factory rejects?

Could be factor rejects. But I would bet just cheap knock offs.

OK, Counterfeits AG lesson 101.
Q- Where do they come from?
Answer- They come from China! There is a factory there that makes the counterfeit AG dolls, and outfits. The dolls are made of a more plastic vinyl and the hair is much harsher and thicker, eye are BIG and more plastic like. freckles painted on, the eyelashes are nice and sof (wish AG had those eyelashes!) The Pleasant Company logo on the back is all crooked, as each letter is put on seperatly. I have pictures in my album : My Fake American Girl dolls.
The only AGs that I have seen counterfeited are, Lindsey, Samantha, Kit, Molly, and Kirsten. I have not seen Kailey. Now this is the one face mold. Addy face mold, never counterfeited. Josefina face mold- never counterfeited. NEVER seen an AGOT counterfeit either.
Now, this information I am allowed to say to you, there is much more information out there, but not allowed to say.
Please do not panic, Ag does know on this, they have their team of specialists on this too. They have now seen more counterfeit dolls at AGH. Those doll return to their owners. I have seen counterfeits come from ebay, Chicago Flea Market and now a Goodwill. I have known a gentleman who went to China and purchased 5 counterfeits for $5 each! These were being sold on the streets. He did indeed sell his dolls on ebay, but when I contact him, he was surprised but still sold them on ebay, but DID include on the auction that the dolls were not authentic.
I also know that now counterfeits are coming in less and less. The one seller that used to sell them on ebay is gone. And I do believe now that there is control on counterfeit AG coming in the USA. Would they be increased? maybe as AG is becoming more and more popular.
I have been doing research on these dolls ever since I discovered them when I purchased my Fake Lindsey (Nora) on ebay.
I do know that other members here have counterfeits, including Linda L. and Angie (Gilly Gals) She also has a different theory to the counterfeits. I am all for it for more information. I do not have the whole picture of the counterfeits but still working on it.
Hope this answers your question. Any more, will be glad to answer.

Ria,
That fake album is really helpful. When you see the two Kit's together you can really see the excellent quality that AG dolls are.
I think that Lindsey doll going for BIN $179 is one of those fake ones - what do you think?

Hi Juliette, thank you for the comment on the album.
The $179 is not a fake, she is the real deal. I think it is just a dark picture.
Also, be warned, sometimes you will see on ebay dolls rewigged and being sold as Lindsey. Any questions on auctions I would be happy to help.
Anyone can PM (Private message) me on them.

Thank you for your post (s) I really enjoy reading them , being so new to AG and trying to learn as much as I can I alway enjoy reading your words of wisdom... You are kind of like the Human dictionary for AG which is so helpful for those of us who dont know. I have to say if I got that lindsey at my house I probally wouldnt have relized she was a fake, she does look pretty real to me , but when you put them side by side you can notice the buggy type eyes , other then that us newbies would probally think wow I got a lindsey doll .. woo hooo..!!! When I buy a doll off ebay Ill be sure to send you the link before bidding since you said it was okay!!!
Thanks again
Jeannie

So if you unknowingly send a fake AG to the hospital they return it?
That's nice. Many companies would confiscate such a doll.

Counterfitting is a big problem when it comes to something high end that can be turned into a commodity. I know we often talk at work (I'm at a publishing company) about expanding new markets, and everyone brings up how we can increase sales in China. The answer is we probably can't, because as soon as we print a book, often times it is sent out counterfitted for much much less than we could every get for it. And from the story about the factory making the fakes, I might guess that people from the original AG factory over there left and set up shop to do the counterfitting. It's not some seedy back alley there. The problem is the government in China does not enforce worldwide trademarks and copyrights, allowing this to go on.
